In the early 1990's a revolution in cataract surgery occurred with the introduction of phacoemulsification (small incision cataract surgery). Cataract surgery transitioned from traditional large incision surgery to small incision surgery.

Dr Binetter was one of the earliest surgeons to adopt this new technology. He routinely used small incision, sutureless cataract surgery combined with the implantation of foldable intraocular lenses years before it was popularized. He helped pioneer sutureless cataract surgery and foldable lenses.

Then in 1995, with the emergence of the Excimer Laser and Laser Eye Surgery, Dr Binetter travelled to the USA for Fellowship training in LASIK. He trained with the world’s best surgeons, Dr Stephen Slade in Texas and Dr Jeff Machat in Toronto, Canada.

He was one of the first Laser Eye Surgeons to be recognized to perform LASIK in Australia. He instructs other surgeons in Cataract and Lens Implant procedures and LASIK.
