Dr Chris Qureshi is an ophthalmologist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, with fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Oxford University, UK. He is committed to excellence in delivery of eye care in Australia and in developing countries with projects in Fiji and Kenya.

Dr Qureshi’s passion for ophthalmology began early in medical school at the Sydney Eye Hospital where he participated in research in ocular melanoma. Having graduated from the University of NSW with advanced science and medical degrees he went on to complete a Masters in Ophthalmic Science at the University of Sydney with research into the delivery of healthcare to indigenous Australians. This passion for ophthalmology saw him later return to the Sydney Eye Hospital for training and then completing his first fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Westmead Hospital.

Dr Qureshi was accepted into the Oxford University Hospital in the UK for a further fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery where he learnt new techniques in gene therapy, general and paediatric retinal surgery and was exposed to new technologies such as the retinal implant. As the senior vitreoretinal fellow in Oxford, he taught retinal surgery to fellows from Spain, Germany, Australia and the UK.

As part of the team at personalEYES and with Westmead Hospital he continues his special interest in treating diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula. He actively participates in research and teaching of registrars, medical students, optometrists and general practitioners.

As a proud father of four young children, Chris loves to spend time with his family. He is a car and aviation enthusiast and is working toward a pilot’s licence. He also shares his knowledge and skills in mentoring local community youth groups.

Dr Joanne Dondey is an ophthalmologist with international Fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmologist and Strabismus. She has extensive experience in the treatment of a wide range of children's eye problems, neonatal eye disorders, childhood strabismus and complex adult strabismus.
She regularly performs squint (strabismus) surgery and has expertise in both adult and paediatric cataract surgery. In addition, Joanne is registered to inject Botulinum toxin (Botox).
Dr Dondey is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO). She has completed two Fellowships in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, firstly at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne followed by a further 12 months at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada where she was the recipient of the Donald Morin Scholarship.
Joanne is dedicated to providing eye care to the wider community. She is a senior staff specialist within the public hospital sector, in the Ocular Motility Clinic (strabismus). She also participated in the Papua New Guinea Project, providing volunteer medical services in Paediatric Ophthalmology.
Joanne is a member of the RANZCO Paediatric Special Interest Group, American Association of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), International Strabismological Association ISO) and RANZCO Public Health Committee.
She has been an invited speaker at international scientific meetings and is a published author in several peer reviewed ophthalmic journals.   • Dr Meades graduated with Honours from Sydney University in 1977 and spent four years at hospitals in New South Wales, including as Senior Resident in Ophthalmology at Repat General Hospital Concord

She has published widely on LM & EM Histopathology of an Iris Microhaemangioma, Atypical Microbacterial Keratitis, Larva Tick Bite of the Conjunctivitis, and True Exfoliation of the Lens Capsule.

She has been actively involved over several years in charitable cataract work as an eye doctor in China and Tibet and refractive work in Vietnam. She is now supporting much needed medical care in the Pacific and Madagascar in association with the SAN.

Dr Peter Asimakis graduated from the University of Sydney in 1984. He spent his first three post-graduate years at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Thereafter he worked as a GP whilst studying for entrance into his Ophthalmology training that commenced in 1990. He trained at the Sydney Eye Hospital from 1990 to 1994 gaining his basic Eye Surgical Degree. Dr Ron Binetter

Dr. Ron Binetter, is one of the most experienced  Cataract and LASIK surgeons in Australia.

He has performed over 14,000 Cataract and Lens Implant procedures and over 22,000 LASIK procedures.

Many of his administrative and nursing staff and their families have had Cataract and Lens Implant or LASIK procedures performed by Dr. Binetter.

Dr. Binetter graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales. He  underwent specialist ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 1990 and the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1991.

After a year as a Research Associate in Ophthalmology at St.Vincent's Hospital Sydney, he was appointed as a Clinical Assistant in Ophthalmology. At the same time he became a Visiting Medical Officer at Goulburn Base Hospital and a clinical examiner in Ophthalmology for the Civil Aviation Authority.

In 1995 he was appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer in Ophthalmology at St.Vincent's Public and Private Hospitals.

In the early 1990's a revolution in cataract surgery occurred with the introduction of phacoemulsification (small incision cataract surgery). Cataract surgery transitioned from traditional large incision surgery to small incision surgery.

Dr Binetter was one of the earliest surgeons to adopt this new technology.He routinely used small incision, sutureless cataract surgery combined with the implantation of foldable intraocular lenses years before it was popularized. He helped pioneer sutureless cataract surgery and foldable lenses.

Then in 1995, with the emergence of the Excimer Laser and Laser Eye Surgery, Dr Binetter travelled to the USA for Fellowship training in LASIK. He trained with the world’s best surgeons, Dr Stephen Slade in Texas and Dr Jeff Machat in Toronto, Canada.

He was one of the first Laser Eye Surgeons to be recognized to perform LASIK in Australia. He instructs other surgeons in Cataract and Lens Implant procedures and LASIK.

A/Professor Rodney Petersen is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology. He has been the Director and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in teaching hospitals in Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia. Most recently he was Director of Women’s and Newborn Services at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in South Australia. He has taught medical students, junior doctors and specialist trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for many years.

A/Professor Petersen is actively involved in Colposcopy training for specialist trainees within the RANZCOG and is a Course Director for the College of Surgeons in the Emergency Management of Surgical Trauma courses. Dr Elizabeth Gallagher

Liz was born and educated in Canberra then studied for her medical degree at the University of Newcastle. She did her O&G training at John Hunter Hospital, St Mary’s in Portsmouth UK and finally at TCH, during which time she had 3 sons. In 2002 she started a small private practice in Canberra and has expanded it into a women’s specialist practice that includes physiotherapy and a dietitian. She has served as a Council member of the Australian Menopause Society, as a member of the board of the John James Foundation and as president of the ACT Medical Women’s Society.  Currently she is the President of the ACT branch of the AMA. Training and Philosophy

Dr Adham—or Omar, as he prefers to be called—grew up in New Zealand with his brother and four sisters. He obtained his general obstetrics and gynaecology training in Auckland, New Zealand, where he worked at Middlemore Hospital, the largest women’s health hospital in the Southern Hemisphere. There, he gained extensive experience in the management of high-risk pregnancies as well as complex gynaecological conditions.

In 2008, Omar moved to Sydney, where, at the renowned St. Vincent’s Hospital, he completed his fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery and urogynaecology (treatment of bladder incontinence and prolapse).

Over the years, Omar has lived and worked in various parts of the world. He’s seen women and families through great challenges and triumphs and has developed a deep respect for the dignity of every patient.

Dr Uche A. Menakaya is an Australian trained specialist obstetrician, gynecologist and sonologist.

He completed his general obstetric and gynecology training with the Sydney Southwest Area Health Service in New South Wales before undertaking additional training in laparoscopic surgery and advanced gynecological imaging. Between 2013 and 2014, Dr Menakaya underwent combined fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery and gynecological ultrasound at the Acute Gynecology, Early Pregnancy and Advanced Laparoscopic unit at Nepean Hospital in Kingswood.

He has also completed his Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound.  

Dr Menakaya has a special interest in the concept of a single visit ultrasound based outpatient gynecological service and has pioneered the introduction of this unique model of care in Canberra through his practice at JUNIC Specialist Imaging and Women’s Center. This cost effective model of care ensures that women spend less time attending multiple appointments with their specialists and have more time available for family and loved ones. Dr Menakaya is also a global leader in the use of transvaginal ultrasound for the preoperative assessment and triage of women with suspected endometriosis (Menakaya et al, 2013a, Menakaya et al, 2013b, Menakaya et al, 2015a, Menakaya et al, 2015b, Menakaya et al, 2015c).

Dr Menakaya has presented his work at several national and international conferences and has won many awards for this novel approach to women’s health including the prestigious Dr Carlo Romanian award from the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists (AAGL) for his work on developing an ultrasound based endometriosis staging system (UBESS). Dr Menakaya is also a staff specialist at the Calvary Public hospital and a member of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM), Australasian Gynecology Endoscopic Society (AGES), International Society of Ultrasound in O&G (ISUOG), American Association of Gynaecology Laparoscopists (AAGL) and World Endometriosis Society (WES).

Professor Julie Quinlivan (MBBS PHD FRANZCOG)

Professor Julie Quinlivan is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology. She has been a senior clinician in teaching hospitals in South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia and has taught medical students, junior doctors and specialist trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for many years.

Dr. Angelo Tsirbas has written and published an extensive list of medical literature including over 50 research papers and book chapters. Dr. Clayton Clews is a Commonwealth accredited podiatric foot and ankle surgeon. Podiatric surgery is the surgical speciality devoted to the foot and ankle. His specialist training was obtained through the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons (ACPS). He completed his undergraduate studies at Curtin University, Western Australia in 1989, his Research Masters in Sports Physiology at Canberra University in 2000, and his Masters in Podiatry at Curtin University in 2003.

Dr. Clews has trained extensively in Australia and overseas. He completed rotations within the UK’s National Health Service (2005/2010) and in the USA, at Dekalb Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia (2012).
